The advantage of this aluminum coating is that it is a vapor barrier, while at the same time it is resistant to heat and keeps the flavors unchanged. Compared to plain aluminum, metallized PET protects food from dangerous aluminum emissions when in contact with edibles when they are too salty or acidic, such as in grilled food.
